Getting fit often conjures images of expensive gym memberships, fancy workout gear, and protein shakes that break the bank. But what if staying fit and living a healthy lifestyle were achievable without emptying your wallet?

Social media fitness influencer and fitness coach Neo Sibiya tells Health For Mzansi that the most significant aspect of affordable fitness is living within your means.

“Look at how you handle your finances. Make sure it’s realistic with the healthy lifestyle that you’re trying to live because at some point both have to balance each other.

Find what works for your needs

“Look at what works for you and be realistic. Don’t go with how other people do their fitness lifestyle. If it means you have to do home workouts and not go to the gym that’s affordable for you, go with that. So more than anything, if I had to give you a sentence of what affordable fitness is? I think it would be just living within your means.”

Furthermore, she highlights that the gym and having to spend money is not the only way to stay fit. However, people can use the idea of using everyday activities to stay fit and healthy.

“Sometimes you don’t have to go to the gym to be fit. That’s not the only way you know, sometimes how you live your life, life taking walks. That’s a form of being fit. That’s a form of living, a healthy lifestyle. Just take a walk,” she says.

“What I also do is now I don’t normally take the elevator, I take the stairs because I’m like, I just want to keep my body active and working and just operating and being active. So there’s another form of being fit. It’s not just going to the gym. There are so many ways like even drinking water every day.”

In this episode, Sibiya also talks about:

  • The importance of living within your means and affordable fitness.
  • Affordable and accessible ways for individuals to stay fit.
  • The health benefits of keeping our bodies active and staying fit.
  • How to begin your fitness journey with limited resources.
