From making life-changing decisions to career choices, peer pressure, relationships, personal development, and everything in between, your twenties are one of the most crucial years of your life.

Diving into the wild, wonderful, and sometimes terrifying time we all know as your twenties, teenage coach Asanda Mguga shares some advice to consider while you’re still a teen.

“Teenagers don’t take themselves seriously. They are always playful, to the point that what is important at the moment and what is supposed to be done, they do not do,” Mguga says.

It’s not all fun and games

“You enjoy what you’re doing in your teen years because you think you’re still a kid but it might later impact your life. For instance, if you have sexual intercourse at a young age, you might contract diseases, fall pregnant, and become a teen mom or dad unexpectedly.”

According to Mguga, some things teenagers often wish they’d done differently when they reach their twenties, are taking studies more seriously.

“Most teenagers just study to get into the next grade. If they get 40% or 50%, then they are fine. They don’t put any effort into getting much better results for them to get into varsity.”

Mguga says she believes in a self-aware person. “Know who you are, where you are from, and where you are going. And it’s too sad when you lose sight of it because of who you surround yourself with. You do things because everyone around you is doing them. You need to take yourself very seriously and know how important you are. Also, be hungry for knowledge and new information. Be curious, learn everything, and learn something in between.”

In this episode, Mguga also speaks about:

  • Some common pitfalls teens fall into during their teenage years.
  • Things teenagers often wish they’d done differently when they reach their twenties.
  • Things teenagers should do right and be aware of before their twenties.
  • Other healthy life skills that are important for teenagers to learn and adapt before their twenties.
